been practicing a lot, going back and forth from 2 blade to 3 blade broadheads.  both shoot good.  I thought I had my mind made up but I just keep thinking how well my g5 montech 3 blade cut on contact heads have worked so well for so many years plus Im up to 50 lbs draw weight now and my arrows are flying so well.  any thoughts on this? 

The Trophy Ridge React H5 is not as easy to set up as the videos on youtube would lead you to believe.  My first problem was that the sight did not have enough right and left adjustment.  I had to move my biscuit whisker to get enough adjustment on the sight.  It is still not in the middle of the sight range and I will reset the rest at a later date to get more travel in the sight.  My bow is set for turkey hunting now, after that, I will again have my bow tuned and make some adjustment to my rest for more travel. The main problem is that I am not steady enough to do a good job on the 20 yard pin.  I just could not shoot good tight groups at 20 yards.  That is the premise of the sight.  You need to have that pin dead on and then move one more pin.  In theory then the other pins will be set by the sight.  I was using Fleetwood arrows and that may be part of the problem.  The Fleetwood arrows are average of 435 grains with a plus or minus variance of 5 grains.  (One of my Fleetwood arr

I write this post more as a journal to myself than anything else.  I want to be able to look back and say "What little did I know," but feel free to comment, I need all the help I can get. Saga of the Arrows:   When Isaiah got me motivated last fall I did not know if I still had the strength to shoot a compound bow. I had an old 25# fiberglass bow so I got a new string for it and went to Sportsman for some arrows. They recommended some 500 spline (6.4 gpi) Fleetwood with feather vanes.  I got pretty good with no sight or release.  When I got my compound bow I had to re-fetched them.  I also found some of the same arrows on-line with plastic vanes so I purchase another 6. The 500 spline were the correct spline at my starting pull weight of 40#. I really like the Fleetwood arrows. As my draw weigh increased my shooting sort of deteriorated.  I concluded that I needed a heavy spline arrow, a 400.  As fate would do, I was watching a You Tube video on broad heads when the test

Maybe motel hunting would be best.  Will have to see how long a drive it is to our hunting spot.  Motel does give us more flexibility.  We can check out early and don't need to use 4 days towing camper to and from. Also, each us of can be a little on different schedules. I would still trailer the UTV.  That would give us two mountain vehicles, the FJ and the UTV.  Would work well for a 4 man hunt.   I watched a hunting video by "Born and Raised Outdoors" on you tube.  It was 2 hours long and an Arizona hunt.  I recognized the terrain.  Isaiah can relate to it, big bull at 25 yards but all they could see is rack and legs.  Any way they used a technique which they called drive and bugle.  It is what my neighbor also does.  Drive forest roads and listen for bugles between 4 am and sun up.  Then when they have located elk, they try to stalk them.  They got a monster and I bet Ben and Isaiah will say, heh I have been there.  It might have been that bottom on the way to the

I have been a motel/restaurant hunter, this camping is new to me.  We need some checklists to make sure we have what we need but don't double and triple up.  Every item is added weight especially if it is in the tow vehicle. For example, I have an ax, should I throw it in, not if Gip is bringing one. I think we need a checklist for tow vehicle, checklist for scouting trip, checklist for food stuffs. I will start with checklist for scouting and attach it.  Later I will add checklist for tow vehicle. You can add things to my list by comments and or make a list for your vehicle and send by e mail or just put in comments to this post.  We may  have vehicles coming from IA and TX or Isaiah may elect to fly here and ride with me.  Tow Pickup, Gip's vehicle and UTV ought to be enough, but Isaiah may want to drive himself from Texas.  If he does, it gives us another vehicle to bring needed equipment and would cut down on weight in tow vehicle.
